The Best in the West will return in 2024, being held on the weekend of 31 Aug and 1 Sept.
For those new to the club in the last few years, this is the Hobsons Bay Chess Club’s Flagship annual weekend event and has a long, rich history in the Melbourne chess community.
Entries are now open, and are limited to 90 places.

Just a short note about the changes coming in 2024, following our recent Annual General Meeting.
Cheaper: Membership fees are reduced by $20 for adult and $25 for Juniors. Revised fees can be found on the membership page. Event entry fee is cheapest when paying online to Tornelo.
Names/rates: Blitz replaces Lightning (9 rounds of 5 minutes + 2 seconds per move); Rapid replaces Allegro (5 rounds of 15 minutes + 10 seconds per move).
