Best in the West for 2019

Another successful ‘Best in the West’ 5-round event was held over the Father’s Day weekend (80 players). There was a 5-way tie for first (4.5/5) that included our club’s member and event organiser, Tony Davis, as well as Daniel Gusain. Also, Takshil Kamineni won the rating group 3 prize with a score of 3.0 (ahead of 20 players in his rating group). By my reckoning, there were 17 club members playing in the event.

Best in the West 2017 results

The results are in, along with a short commentary here.

Over $3,200 in prizes were claimed over the weekend, with Hobsons Bay players Bruce Williams, Myiesha Maunders and Vishal Bhat among the prizes. Hobsons Bay Junior Players Max Clerk and Julian McIntyre were also among the prize winners.

Thanks to all who participated, but most of all to Tony Davis who organised and ran yet another very successful event. I’d encourage all Tuesday night regulars to give Best in the West a shot next year, it is always a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

Also, Sergey was able to finish equal first in his rating group and score biggest upset by beating a 1500 player, which earned $200. Well done Sergey on a terrific tournament!!
