We are excited and pleased to announce that we will be running junior chess at our venue on Tuesday nights, starting on the 17 May from 630pm (finishing by 830pm). These events will be vital to cultivate long-term chess interest through the club, and to fill a need for the local junior chess players. Many thanks to Casey Goh for running with this idea and making it a reality!
Full details are still being worked through, but there will be a junior membership fee (proposed to be $50) per annum, as well as a $10 tournament fee (for each tournament entered). This is to cover costs, prizes, etc. These junior events will also be ACF rated.
There is a participation form to be completed by a guardian/parent, that will appear on the web site soon, but it is also attached to this post. Please print it and sign before we start.
We realise that not all juniors can compete at our club, until they get better! To help with that, for any juniors who would like to enrol in chess classes, Chess Academy Australia operates around the Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing and Werribee areas. The contact for these classes is Phil Minichelli who can be contacted on the following details:
The all round championship concluded last night with Rheyansh taking out both the evening and the overall tournament. Terrific effort Rheyansh! Proving yourself as a very capable juniors who may win plenty of tournaments in the near future (and whose future rating will show considerable improvement). The top three standings were:
1st – Rheyansh (38.5 out of 47 possible)
2nd – Julian (32.5)
3rd – Scott (30.5).

Likely start-back date (subject to AGM) will be Tuesday 18 January. That will involve informal activities with tournament play to commence the following week.
Wishing you each a very merry Christmas if I don’t see you beforehand. Hope to see you when we start back in 2022! Regards, Steve
We are asking parents/guardians of junior players to sign the Junior Participation Agreement regarding junior players participating at the club. We would like you to sign to acknowledge the recommendation of the Committee that juniors have supervision during club events and also agree that juniors should not leave the playing venue until such time as they are picked up.
Please note that this is only a precautionary measure. The Club has had no issues with any junior conduct at the club and appreciates the participation of juniors who clearly love the challenge that chess presents!
The form can also be found in future on the Membership page.
The first rated Junior tournament for 2017 has been completed, a 5-round event. Well done to all that played, I am sure you have all learned a lot from the experience. Full story and detailed results are here.
The final results are in (see here for full details) for this 7 round Saturday junior event. Thanks to Tony Davis for running this. Congratulations to Daniel Gusain for a clean sweep score, and Sophie Davis won the Queens Cup.
This coming Saturday 13th May is the start of Tournament 3.
