Step 1 - Learn the Basics
Rules, piece movement, checkmate patterns and simple tactics.

Tactics training, openings, endgames and good thinking habits.
Step 3 - Compete Regularly
Junior tournaments and internal events to apply learning under time pressure.

Support and guidance for external events and higher-level pathways for advanced juniors.

We offer Junior Coaching where we group juniors by experience (not by age) so every child is challenged at the right level in a supportive environment.
Weekly Tournament & Coaching Schedule

Information
for Parents
Safety & Supervision: Juniors are supervised by coaches and volunteers during sessions. We aim to provide a safe, welcoming environment for every child.
Behaviour & Fair Play:We expect respectful behaviour, good sportsmanship and fair play. Parents and juniors should review our Code of Conduct and club policies.
Drop-off & Pick-up:Please arrive on time, sign in if required, and ensure your child is collected promptly after the session ends.
Communication: Important updates are shared via email and our club platforms. If you have questions, contact the Juniors Coordinator.

We will send you the link to register and a link to join a 15 min Zoom call.
Step 4 - Come Along to the First Session
Arrive a little early so we can welcome your child and answer questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can my child start?
Most children start from around [X] years old. If your child is younger but keen, contact us to discuss.
Does my child need to know the rules already?
No. Our Foundation group is designed for absolute beginners.
Do I need to stay during the session?
Parents of younger children are encouraged to stay; older juniors can be dropped off and picked up on time. See Guidelines & Policiy
What does my child need to bring?
We provide boards and clocks. A drink bottle is recommended. If your child keeps score, bring a pen.
Are there extra costs for tournaments?
Some tournaments and special events have separate entry fees, listed on the registration page.
How do I know if my child is ready to move up a level?
Speak with our coaches or the Juniors Coordinator. We’ll recommend the most suitable group.
